Wollastonite belongs to triclinic wollastonite, which is acicular, fibrous and lamellar aggregate. The crystal is acicular - fibrous. Bright white, glassy -- pearly luster. Mohs hardness is 4.5 degrees. The proportion of 2.8 ~ 2.9. Refractive index 1.616~1.631. Melting point 1480 degrees. Loss of burning ≤1~5%. Whiteness ≥85~90. Oil absorption rate 26%(powder state).

Applications:

1.  Metallurgical protection slag：mainly used as the base material for the production of granular slab continuous casting, mould casting protection slag and carbon free protection slag. Due to the stability of wollastonite composition, the casting billet has no defects and the surface is smooth. Because of the existence of CaO and SiO2 in wollastonite in a combined state, the ratio is just in the range of basicity required by continuous casting, which can reduce the type of base material for slag preparation, simplify the process, and make the protective slag has good thermal stability. Because wollastonite is very low in Al2O3, it can enhance the absorption of Al2O3 by the slag.

2. Refined Steel: Metallurgical grade wollastonite can be used in the refining of steel. Due to the low content of MgO, Al2O3, P and S in wollastonite, the small particles of 5 ~ 50mm wollastonite are directly put into ladle and the small particles of 3 ~ 8mm are sprayed in the process of steelmaking, which can adsorb impurities such as MgO, Al2O3, P and S in molten steel and purify molten steel.

3. Protection slag base material: metallurgical protection slag is mainly used for the production of granular slab continuous casting, mold casting protection slag and carbon free protection slag base material. Due to the stable composition of wollastonite, the billet has no defects and the surface is smooth.
